1 more month

The day is slowly creeping up on us. February 9th, the day in which I will be the mother of a....2 year old ::shudder::. A mixture of fear and sadness has built up inside of me. First of all, let me tell you that Logan has the terrible two's down to a science, yet he's still not two. Does this mean that the terrible two's will be even more horrible than the last month of his life? I'm not sure if I can handle this. I do take some blame for trying to move him up to a big boy bed. That was a FAIL. Sleeping through the night was gone, taking naps was gone. Logan: 1, Mommy and Daddy: 0. However, the rest of the brattiness is on him. Normally I will ask him a question and I get, "NO!!". Please pretend you hear this with the attitude of a 13 year old girl, because that is exactly what it sounds like. Yet I still want a girl...

The sadness does linger inside of me though. Sometimes I will look at his baby pictures and realize that he used to be so very small. I could cradle him in my arms. He fit on his changing table. He's such a big boy now. He's independent. He has an ENORMOUS vocabulary (without any swear words thank you! I had to cut some out of my own). He knows some numbers, some letters, colors, shapes. Basically he's a genius. I know that he's going to start having his own hobbies soon...ones that include cars, and sports, and all things non-mommy. I'm still trying to push in the arts and crafts, perhaps a little dancing, dress up, maybe a tea party? And the next thing you know he'll be 18 and moving out, and then getting married...things just need to slow down.

For now, I'm thankful for this:

Just what you've been waiting for!

I know, I know, you've all been waiting patiently for the new and improved pictures of Logan. He is pretty handsome, so I can totally understand. So, here they are, the 1 year pictures of the L man.

There are so many more that I'd like to share, but then you'd get tired of scrolling and I don't want that.

One week after this we cut the curls. It was just getting too mulletty (is that a word?). He now looks like a little man.

Come one, come all...

To Logan's Birthday Party!

I know it's been a week since we celebrated, but we finally got off our lazy butts and posted his birthday party pictures. Logan's party was circus themed and I think we did a pretty good job. A couple of ideas got cut last minute because I simply ran out of time, but overall, I was happy with the end result. We found an AMAZING lady who makes cakes. If any of you are in the Phoenix area and need a cake, find Jennycakes on facebook. Awesome, and very reasonable prices. I asked for a simple smash cake that was circus themed and she created a masterpiece that I loved, and Logan did too!
I stuck to a pretty simple menu. Since most of the guests were either adults or babies under the age of 1, we thought we'd cater to the tastebuds of the adults. We had some apples with apple dip (so delish), rice crispie treats, fruit kabobs, cotton candy, and jimmy johns subs. I also threw in some animal crackers to snack on. What's a circus without some animals? The kids took home clown noses, bubbles, a bag of cotton candy, and a circus themed rubber ducky. I also made cupcakes for the first time ever. You can clap now.
Logan had tons of fun with his friends. We played pin the nose on the clown and blew bubbles using his bubble gun. I was VERY happy that our friends bought him clothes for the summer and books instead of toys. I know, I'm mean, but the boy has so many toys already. We ended with some eating of cake, which I think was Logan's favorite part.

It was sad to celebrate without our family, but we know that he'll be able to celebrate with them next year and for all of his other birthdays too. I still can't believe that we now have a toddler in the house, but everyday he does more and more. On to planning next year's party!

Happy Birthday Logan!

It's been one year. One year ago today our world turned completely upside down when this chubby cheeked little boy came into our lives. It's been a year full of crying (from both parents and baby), diapers, laughing, and best of all kisses. No longer do I get to sleep in until double digits on the weekend, but I sure do love cuddling on the couch and watching Rugrats with my own little rugrat. Happy Birthday to my little man, you're one year old!

*Please note, I promise a better 12 month picture of him tomorrow :)

10, 9, 8, ...

The birthday countdown has started. It is officially less than a week until my little boy is 1. A toddler. Oh. My. Gosh. I was just rocking him tonight when I realized that this would have been the week that I found out we were going to have an early delivery. Probably the most stressful day of my life thanks to my oh so lovely principal at the time. I was not happy to be delivering early, she was not happy. Andy was scared shitless.

I'm getting so excited to celebrate Logan's big day with everyone. The party favors have been collected, the cake ordered, the presents bought, and most of the decorations made. I will admit to a couple of snafus with the birthday shirt I made him, but it all worked out. Kind of . We just need some guests and an adorably cute birthday boy. Check.

Oh no...

Our worst fears have happened...Logan is now throwing food down to the dog. Lucy waits so patiently under his high chair for a bit of a snack, and he loves her so much that he gave her one tonight. Yummy green beans! Perhaps not Lucy's top pick for snack foods, but she'll take anything. He's such a sneaky little guy. He continuously threw food down on the floor for Lucy, but when Andy looked up to check if he was eating, he instantly began chewing and started laughing. I think we're going to have our hands full. Oh boy.

too much for a title

Oh goodness, I'm a lazy blogger. I'm going to post a quick update just to wet your tastebuds. Here goes...

Christmas came, Christmas went. Logan received WAY too many presents, which forced us to buy a new toy box and disassemble the bouncer in order to make room in our house. He loved meeting family in Michigan and Indiana. He hated snow. As seen here:

We were sad to leave, but happy that we'll be back for good in a few short months :) Here are some of our favorite Christmas pictures:

Logan has also passed the 11 month mark of his life. That means less than one month until he's the big 1. Then he'll be a toddler. Not a baby, not an infant, a toddler. I know Andy's ready for this, but I don't know if I am. It's crazy to see all of the things he can do now. Here are some stats just for kicks:

  • Weighs 21 lbs. (a bit on the skinny side from what I hear)
  • Last we checked he's 28 inches tall
  • Just switched to size 4 diapers
  • Wearing mostly 12 month clothes
  • Crawling EVERYWHERE and getting into EVERYTHING (why did we want him to be mobile?)
  • Walking along the edges of things and standing by himself for a few seconds
  • Talks a lot of gibberish, but still hanging onto mama, dada, baba, nana. I swear I've heard a "ya" when I ask questions
  • Eat mostly table food. We actually ordered off the kids menu at a restaurant the other night!
  • 4 teeth
Basically, he's the coolest kid ever. I love being around him and find that I get even less done for work because I don't want to take any Logan time out of my schedule. So, without further adieu, here's the L man:

Germs, germs, go away...

My poor little guy. It just seems like he can't get away from being sick. We took him to a drop-in day care about a month ago because his regular sitter was on vacation. While there he picked up a nasty bug. I'm sure that if you were to look at it under a microscope it would have had about 10 heads and drooling gross saliva. That kind of nasty. He was throwing up, and had a crazy fever. Finally, after many days of both Andy and I taking work off, the fever was down and he was back to normal...or so we thought.

Next came the cough. The croup cough. Poor guy was up all night long with coughing fits. This resulted in very little sleep for Andy and I, and a very cranky Logan. We took him to see the doc, they put him on a steroid medicine, and we thought we were on our way. Nope.

Apparently many children develop an ear infection after having croup. His started with a rash (weird) and continued with the crankiest L man you have ever met. His sitter told me that another baby had the same rash and they found out she had an ear infection. Mystery solved. He downed some pink bubble gum medicine (my favorite!) and our happy Logan was back.

Until the coughing and the snotty nose started again. Yes, he has a cold. A horrible cold. Right now he in a room of menthol vapors with a humidifier running. Poor guy didn't want to do anything except lie on my chest or Andy's chest yesterday and just stare. The good news is that he's been somewhat happy during the day time. I don't think I can take any more of these germs!

8 Months!

My little man turned 8 months yesterday. We're slowly inching our way towards the 1 year mark. I've definitely noticed that I'm buying more and more 12 month outfits. On some of them it even says "toddler". SCARY! So, without further adieu, here are the stats you've been waiting for:

  • Weighing in at approximately 17.4 lbs (please note, this is on my scale, which tends to make us think we're skinnier than we really are)
  • Eating 3 bottles a day and two servings of baby food, usually one veg and one fruit. He's also eating rice puffs and loving them!
  • Says mama, dada, nana, baba, but doesn't connect them to any one thing yet.
  • Crawling is so so close! He's actually scooting himself backwards and in a circle. I give it one more month.
  • He never mastered rolling. He can still do it to the left, but he prefers to sit on his booty and play with his toys. Perhaps we just won't have a gymnast on our hands.
  • TWO teeth. Yes, that is correct, two. They sprouted within a week of one another. Thank goodness we haven't had horrible teething stories to tell.
  • Flexibility is on the rise...he's officially put a toe in his mouth
Still the cutest thing around.

It's starting to grow...

A tooth that is. While feeding Logan today, Andy noticed a little white spot on his bottom gum. Yes ladies and gentlemen, we have a tooth pushing its way through. It hasn't reached the surface yet, but it will. And then my little man won't be so little anymore. He won't have a gummy smile. Instead, he'll have a toothy smile. Toddlers have teeth. Not itty bitty babies. Conclusion: Logan is getting too big. I LOVE him at this age. I wish I could just push pause for a little while longer.

We had an inkling that this was on its way. There were a couple of random diarrhea dipes this week. No fever, no cranky Logan? Most likely teething. I'm hoping that this tooth breaks the surface soon and we don't have to deal with a very cranky little man. My hopes are up, but I am aware that my expectations may not be met. So, we'll see how it goes. So far he hasn't been cranky, just normal L man. Soon to be normal L man with a tooth :(

7 Months!

We have passed the halfway point. Logan is officially 7 months old. When did he get this big? He's getting to be a little independent guy now. No longer is he lying on his back underneath his play gym. Instead, he chooses to sit on his bottom and play with the toys that surround him. No longer do we hear the crying wails of a newborn. It's now "Dadadada", "Mamamama", and "Babababa". And crawling, it's getting close too. We have a little man that can turn 360 degrees on his tummy and is soooo close to crawling to get his favorite toy. He's a little man ::wipes tear from eye::. Perhaps I shouldn't say little, I mean, he does weigh around 18 pounds people! Please witness the cuteness, you know you love him!

Children's Museum Shenanigans

Have I mentioned that I love museums, especially Children's Museums? I love anything that has hands-on fun that will allow both parents and children to play. Our meetup group scheduled a playdate this last Friday at the Phoenix Children's Museum. The museum offers free admittance every 1st Friday of the month. I'm cheap, so I'm all up for free visits! There were only a few of us meeting up, but we had so much fun! Although Logan couldn't really partake in many of the activities, such as the enormous indoor playground, we made sure to find activities for him. One thing I love about the museum is that there is a room that is specifically for children ages 3 and under. Logan loved playing with the sensory wall (which he gets from his dad) and trying to eat all of the squishy toys. My favorite part of the museum: The hanging noodle forest! We walked through a forest of hanging pool noodles. Logan was entertained, I was entertained. Totally worth the wait in line outside. The highlight of the night was hanging out with our new friends from the meetup group, especially a couple that lives around the corner from us. They came over to our house on Sunday and we have some more play dates in the works. Yes, I'm turning into one of those parents.
